girls night

The girls are headed over for drinks and dinner tonight. It’ll be a great get together!

2011 is in full swing…

it’s almost the end of February and hopefully spring is right around the corner.

I have been playing around with the gel nails and getting the hang of it. It’s a different application than acrylic, but since I never did that application correct, I may be ok. I restarted my magazine subscription to both nail mags and am hoping to get to the Premiere Orlando show next year (that will be the “I’m a kid in a candy store” adventure of a lifetime). I’ve reconnected with the nailtech google group and while I lurk mostly, I do add my two cents. About 8 years ago I thought I wanted to get out of the nail business. And while I have taken somewhat of a hiatus from it, it turns out I really just needed to start exploring more options in the industry and using my noggin to learn something new and different. I am a true Gemini. I do get bored. (or maybe that has nothing to do with it at all) I have to remember to tell myself that I constantly need to be challenged. I did learn, however, in the past 6 months, that I adopted some not so great habits, which I’m currently trying to break… and I forgot about some good habits that I need to work on getting back into the scheme of things. Something as simple as polishing…yea really. Wait till you have to apply gel polish…

On another note, an old friend from high school was just admitted to hospice last night. We just re-connected through Facebook last year, after losing touch for 20 years. You really need to think about life when it comes to something like this: it really is too short and you dont always have the time now, but will there be the time later? No one is supposed to die in their 40’s…

On that note…

Happy Fall Ya’ll

I’ve been using the ECO soak off gels on several of my clients and they love it! I have to admit, I really wasn’t going to try it, but I’m glad I did. I am still trying to perfect my application, while learning from other techs and educators.

As far as traditional gels go, this is still a learning process – application mostly. (I’m mad at myself for not learning this back in the day, but hey, you can teach an old dog new tricks!) I had a class on the product in August (I was on overload that day and trying to process the technique), took some notes and purchased a cd on applicaiton techniques. Then I went to the educators salon a couple of weeks ago to sit and observe. All good. I have been using the product on myself and am very impressed: no lifting, I can go three to four weeks, easy to file. I do chip my corners on occassion and thats a pain. I have a friend lined up for a new set and am looking forward to actually sculpting as opposed to tip application. I’ll let you know how it works out.

On a fallish note, the leaves are turning and the air is crisp. I like this time of the year, but I am not looking forward to the winter and always being cold. The holidays are not that far off, and right after that, my kid sister turns 40. My office is moving again….ahh 2011, here we come.
